Youth savings account FAQ

Yes, they will if you order one. The card will come in 7 to 10 business days.

Your child can use it to deposit checks and cash into their account at a preferred ATM that takes deposits.‍ ‍ See note 6 Find these with our ATM locator.

This account is for kids younger than 18. To open it for them, you have to be their parent or legal guardian.

We’ll convert a USAA Youth Savings account to a regular savings account right after a child turns 18.

If you stay on as a joint account holder, you can continue monitoring their account and easily assist with bills or transfers.

If you haven’t sent us any proof of identification since you opened the account, you’ll need to upload images of their:

  • Social Security card.
  • Government-issued ID.
  • Proof of physical address.

You can submit these to us on our document portal. To comply with the USA PATRIOT Act, USAA Federal Savings Bank, or FSB, must verify the ID of all account holders.

If we don’t receive this proof within 55 days after your child turns 18, the account will be at risk of closing.

  1. Youth Spending Account Promotion Offer Terms and Conditions

    Eligibility:

    This offer is available for new USAA Youth Spending accounts from USAA Federal Savings Bank, also known as USAA Bank, applied for between July 15, 2026, and October 16, 2026, by 11:59 PM Central Time. A USAA Youth Spending account is a youth checking account owned jointly by a minor under the age of 18 years old and their parent or legal guardian. The minor is the primary account holder and must have or establish membership to qualify. Use of the term "member" or "membership" refers to membership in USAA Membership Services and does not convey any legal or ownership rights in USAA. Restrictions apply and are subject to change.

    An account is not eligible for this offer if:

    1. The minor account holder currently has, or has had, any ownership of a USAA Youth Spending account within the 12 months prior to new account opening; or
    2. The account is titled as a trust account, estate account, or any other representative or fiduciary account.

    Bonus Requirements and Payment

    To qualify for the bonus:

    • The parent or legal guardian must apply for a new USAA Youth Spending account between July 15, 2026, and October 16, 2026, by 11:59 PM Central Time, open the account with a minimum deposit of at least $25, order at least one debit card for the new account; and
    • Within 60 calendar days of account opening, complete 5 debit card purchases using any debit card associated with the new account. The purchases must post to the account within this 60-day window. USAA Bank does not determine the posting date. The posting date may be later than the date the purchase was initiated.

    Examples of transactions that do not qualify: ATM withdrawals, Automated Clearing House or ACH transfers, Zelle® transactions, and internal transfers to or from other USAA Bank accounts or products.

    After the debit card purchase requirements are met, USAA Bank will attempt to deposit the $100 bonus into the account within 60 calendar days. The account must remain open and in good standing at the time USAA Bank attempts to deposit the bonus payment.

    Additional Terms and Conditions

    • All account applications are subject to approval.
    • Account requires a minimum opening deposit of at least $25, but there is no minimum balance required to obtain the bonus.
    • USAA Youth Spending accounts with a daily ledger balance of $1,000 or more have an annual percentage yield (APY) of §%, accurate as of §. Rates subject to change. Fees may reduce earnings.
    • Limit one bonus per minor child, on the first eligible account only.
    • Offer cannot be paid without a valid U.S. taxpayer identification number and cannot be combined or replaced with any other checking account offer for the primary account holder.
