Homeowners hail claims process

Know what to expect when you file a hail claim for your home.

Our 4-step hail claims process

Steps to complete Our 4-step hail claims process

  1. Report your claim

Tell us what happened. Get started on usaa.com or the USAA Mobile App.

Make sure to take steps to prevent more damage, like stopping any water leaks and securing broken doors or windows.

To get updates about your claim faster, turn on text message notifications in your communication settings.

  2. Get more details

We'll review what happened and check what your policy covers. You can also add more details in My Claims Center.

Before you can start repairs, we'll need to inspect your home and start an estimate. The inspection will help us figure out how much it'll cost to fix the damage and determine what your policy covers.

We may need more details like photos or temporary repair estimates. We'll also address any claims against you.

  3. Evaluate the claim

We'll go over the details and figure out what to pay based on your estimate, coverage and deductible.

It may include the cost of repairing or replacing the roof and siding, depending on the extent of the damage.

We'll reach out if we need more information.

  4. Settle the claim

If covered, we'll make a payment to you or a third party. You'll pay your deductible to the repair company after they complete the work.

For example, if the damage costs $2,500 and your deductible is $1,000, you’d pay them $1,000, and we'd pay $1,500 for the repairs.

If they find more damage, your policy may cover the additional damage with a supplement, but it needs to be approved. Before starting those repairs, message your adjuster.

Check out our video to learn more about the supplement process.
